As a volleyball coach and designer, I created something extraordinary: my kangaroo t-shirt collection featuring Resee, volleyball's highest-flying left side hitter and attacker.

When I was matching volleyball player positions with what I thought was their perfect spirit animals, I chose the kangaroo as the ultimate representation of power outside hitters - also known as 'left side hitters' combining explosive jumping ability with lightning-quick, high reaching arm swing and powerful ball contact technique that consistently produce point-scoring results.

5 Reasons Why I Think Kangaroos Make Good Representatives For Elite Left Side Hitters: Meet Left Side Hitter Resee The KangarooThe Kangaroo T-shirt Volleyball Designs Feature Left Side Hitter Resee The Roo available now at Etsy/Volleybragswag shop.

- Natural Vertical Jumping Ability:

Kangaroos can leap up to 6 feet high, similar to what outside hitters who dominate above the net are required to do....specifically jump and reach high to contact the ball at their highest reach before spiking the ball. 





- Quick Recovery and Cardio Ability:

Like kangaroos who jump long distances for long periods of time to get from one place to another, left side hitters must transition rapidly and for long periods of time during long rallies which require them 



- Explosive Power:

A kangaroo's powerful legs are used with a heel-toe action to propel them forward to cover longer ground distances with minimum steps.

This 'heel-toe' action is similar to how I train my outside hitters which is to remind them to "attack the last two steps of their spike approach) in order to gain more explosive power with their vertical jump in hopes of increasing their vertical which allows them to reach as high as possible before attacking the ball.

Fun fact: Kangaroos also use their legs to kick when needed in a fight or when playing around.

- Superior Balance:

Just as kangaroos can control their body parts while in mid-air while jumping, outside hitters also have to stay balanced in the air at the height of their spike approach in order to hit, tip short, roll shot, or tip to deep corners before landing on the ground. 

- Fast Footwork:

A kangaroos' quick upper body movements in coordination with their lower body reactions reflect the agility outside hitters need to run faster offenses before quickly transitioning from serve receive to defense
