Whats The 2024 NCAA Volleyball Tournament Playoff Schedule This Year?

This year's 2024 NCAA volleyball tournament schedule is out for the First and Second rounds, Regionals Sweet 16, Elite Eight, Semifinals and Final Rounds!





In the 2023 NCAA womens volleyball championship Texas won the D-I title for a second year in a row, this time over perennial problem Nebraska in an unexpectedly "easy" win in three sets. 

In 2024 several records were broken including the first final where two women head coaches meet each other in the Finals ....and another record set with the first female volleyball coach winning an NCAA Volleyball tournament, ever!

Only 64 teams are allowed in the NCAA womens volleyball championship which hosts five rounds of competition which I describe below. 


NCAA Womens Volleyball Championship:
The First Round


This year, the first round of the 2024 NCAA Womens Volleyball Championship begins Thursday, Dec 5 and Friday, Dec 6. 


NCAA Womens Volleyball Championship:
The Second Round


The second round of the 2024 NCAA Womens Volleyball Championship starts Friday, Dec 6 and Saturday, Dec 7.  


NCAA Womens Volleyball Championship:
Regional Rounds


The Sweet 16 and Elite Eight rounds begin Thursday, December 12 and continue through to Sunday, December 15. 


NCAA Womens Volleyball Championship:
The Semifinal Rounds


The semifinal rounds are also known as the Final Four because there are only four teams remaining in the tournament will be held on Thursday, December 19. 


NCAA Womens Volleyball Championship: The Finals


The final round which hosts the last match of the year with the best two teams in the country, the last two standing, are competing against each other this year and will be held in Louisville, Kentucky on Sunday, December 22, the day after my birthday!

Who's In Each Round Of The 2024 NCAA Womens Volleyball Championship 


First there's a first round of 64 teams which becomes 32 teams that will compete in the second round.

First and Second Round matches are hosted at the campus sites of the Top 16 seeds in the tournament:

No. 1 Seed Hosts: Pittsburgh, Nebraska, Penn State, Louisville

No. 2 Seed Hosts: Stanford, Wisconsin, Creighton, SMU

No. 3 Seed Hosts: Kentucky, Texas, Kansas, Arizona State

No. 4 Seed Hosts: Purdue, Baylor, Utah, Oregon

The Hawaii Wahine winners of the Big West conference were happy, as seen here, when they drew TCU as their first round opponent but their happiness was short lived when they lost surprisingly in three sets to the Horned Frogs.

My take: This was a Major upset for me! Congrats to Florida but I would've bet money that Kansas was going to advance.

Huskers Advance to NCAA Round of Sweet 16

As expected no surprise here Huskers look strong in attack and passing.

I thought LMU was capable of taking a set from the Cardinals but they couldnt do it after rising to the occasion to knock Washington out in 5 sets in the first round. 



Kami has been serving aces like this since she was 12 playing and training here in Vegas where she was born. If you need proof go to my Volleycats Elite VBC Instagram account to confirm. While you're there watch how Kami hits...hands down Kami is one of the hardest hitters on the Stanford team, we just don't get a chance to see it.

Penn State - took four sets to beat UNC and is ready to combat Marquette in the semis

Marquette - first round broomed the Gulf Coast in Florida to then meet a motivated Utes squad which they went 5 sets against to earn a victory into the 16s berth

Texas - sometimes wins feel relatively easy to attain, but are they really? Two time defending champs swept TACC and a USC team that I thought would put up more of a fight ...is that going to prepare the longhorns enough for future tough NCAA tournament contests? Being truly tested before the rounds that count...usually serve positively for future ..finalist champions...lets see if this relatively easy trip through the first round rounds helps or hurts the two-time defending champions.

The 2024 NCAA Volleyball Tournament Schedule: The Elite Eight


The fourth round also known as the "Elite Eight" round has the top 8 teams remaining in the NCAA womens volleyball championship.

The fifth round better known as the semifinal round is famously called the "Final Four" with the four remaining teams in the tournament all competing under the same roof in two separate matches which usually takes place the second week in December.

The last round are "The Finals" where the last two teams standing compete against each other on national television in hopes of winning and being crowned the NCAA Womens volleyball championship tournament winners for the year.

If you're a B team or JV player trying to make varsity next year...your goal should be to complete 1000 reps a day of at least three of the basic skills on your own...volleyball passing, serving and setting should be at the top of the list.
