I asked some of the top spikers in Division I a series of hitter volleyball questions which should give you a peek into Division I college volleyball life.

What makes you special? 

I believe my competitiveness gives me the edge and passion that I need to succeed on the court. 


What accessories and/or equipment help you play your best?

I do not believe I have a specific accessory that helps me play well necessarily, I think it's all heart. 


What pregame habits, rituals, or superstitions do you have to do before every game?

Music in the locker room, and then I always pray before each match during the National Anthem.


Who or what inspires you to play well in each match that you play in?

Playing for God is my inspiration first and foremost. Second, my teammates and coaches inspire me to be great, so ultimately, it all comes back to them.


What awards did Liberty hitter volleyball player Lillie Happel win this week? 

  • Lillie Happel was voted the...Big South Conference Choice Hotels Volleyball Player of the Week by the leagues head volleyball  coaches.

  • Happel, currently the Big South leader in kills per set, earns her second Big South Player of the Week award of the season, and third for her career. 
  • She was also named conference player of the week Nov. 15, 2010 and Sept. 12, 2011.          
  • Happel posted double-doubles in both matches this past week, averaging 4.25 kills and 3.0 digs per set.

  • Lillie registered 12 kills, 11 digs, two service aces and two blocks during Liberty’s 3-0 victory over UNC Asheville Friday.  She then sent down a match-high 22 kills, hitting a career-best .426, while also leading theteam with 13 digs, helping Liberty to a 3-2 win against Gardner-Webb Saturday.

  • Happel has now recorded double-doubles in each of the last four matches.
  •  Additionally, she recorded the 500th kill of her career on Saturday, becoming the first Lady Flame since Nicki Scripko in 2008 to earn her 500th career kill as a sophomore.

Improve Your Volleyball: What makes you special?

"We work hard as a team and that hard work and dedication is what makes each of us special."


Improve Your Volleyball: What accessories and/or equipment help you play your best?

"I always wear Active Ankles for support and so I have the security to go for every ball."

 

Improve Your Volleyball: What pregame habits, rituals, or superstitions do you have to do before every game?

"I don’t eat so much on the day of the game so that I can jump higher without as much in my stomach. I also wear the same hair clip in every match."

 

Improve Your Volleyball: Who or what inspires you to play well in each match that you play in?

"I want to make my parents proud even though they can’t see me play because the live in Germany. I try my best to contribute to the team and to do my part so that we can perform well."


What awards did Annika Foit win this week? 

  • Annika Foit was voted the NEC Conference Volleyball Player of the Week by the leagues head volleyball  coaches.

  • Long Island University volleyball player, freshman, Annika Foit wasnamed  Molten/Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week for a third time this season.
  • Foit averaged 5.30 kills and 1.90 digs per set as the Blackbirds won three conference matches and extended their winning streak to four.
  • Annika began the week with 17 kills and two digs in the Blackbirds’ 3-0home win over St. Francis (N.Y.) on Sept. 28 and followed up that performance with a Long Island season-high 25 kills to go along with nine digs in a 3-1 victory at Central Connecticut State on Oct. 1. 

  • Foit then notched 11 kills and eight digs in the Blackbirds’ sweep of Quinnipiac on Oct. 2. 

  • For the week, she hit .289 and added six blocks and three aces. 
  • Foit was also named Molten/NEC Rookie of the Week on Sept. 6and Sept. 12.
